Uzal and Up

U Day in the AtoZ Challenge!

It is National Poetry Month, so I am posting a poem a day as I participate in the AtoZ writing challenge.  I will be writing ekphrastic poetry (a poem that was written with inspiration from an image) using a randomly generated image with a randomly generated FAKE word all this month.

I am using the site: https://randomwordgenerator.com to get both a fake word and random image for the day.  Here's today's image and poem using the FAKE word "uzal":

Up

Down in the hole
The whole sky is small
And there’s only the upwards
To which we can crawl
There’s dark at the bottom
And light up above
And that is the story
Of God’s own true love
For when we’ve climbed skyward
And stepped into light
We’ll find the horizon
Is endless and bright
The uzal of darkness
Upon itself shrinks
As light floods the spaces
To break the last links.

Sunday is

Today there is a break from the AtoZ Challenge, but I'm keeping on keeping on with a poem a day for National Poetry Month.  Here is a random picture I got today on https://randomwordgenerator.com/, and it reminded me of one of the verses in the Bible...

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Matthew 7:25

Matthew 7:25

The rain pours down

and floods your soul

but with faith in foundations

you let the storm roll

it batters the windows

it rattles the door

but safe there within

you can ignore

the challenge of living

the depths of despair

for where you are standing

God fortifies there.

T is for Troilets and Tennis

I was attending myy daughter's wedding yyesterday and forgot about my poem for T.  I shall attempt one now...regardless of the challenge of typing that Blogger is giving me. It's T day at the AtoZ Challenge, and always poem day during April!

Tennis Match

Back and forth the ball is batted

Over net, overhanded

No one plays it in the rain

Spinning water's such a pain

In the face, troilets up

Never worth a tennis Cup.

At Your Service for Eight...or more

Silver collar round my throat

Utensils squuzling gauntlet 'n' coat

Silver spoons mohawk my skull

Silvery ware that's never dull

I'm at your service, knifed and spooned,

with dinner forks my eyes festooned.

I'm Sir Eatsalot, the hungry knight;

I dice my food to size of bite

I make short work of soup or steak.

My favorite conquest?

 birthday cake!

Roof Amuck

There's no accounting for some tastes,

Or why a brain can come unlaced

To think a house should be displaced

Upon its roof to run amuck

Where pointy edges can be stuck

Into the ground by brook and ruk.

Oh, give me roof up to the blue;

There is no sense in having view

That leads to ground through chimney flue.

Quaint Tin

It's a happy day

in Tinny Land

where by the garden

path we stand.

The fishing's good;

the geese are fed.

We've metal caps

to shade our heads.

We're free to be

In freshest air

Without a qualt,

Without a care,

Just smiling up

At rain and sun

To thank the Lord

each day's begun.

There's no amount

Of fear or dread

When all your veins

Are made of lead.

Choices

There are parapentors on the path;

T'would never do to seek their wrath!

So I will step off wooden lath

To seek a safer, detoured path.

Rarely is there man that hath

Not wished he'd done the better math

To pick the far off painless path

'Ere earning parapentors' wrath.

Donna JT Smith ©2022

Ah, the parapentor.  Never to be messed with... so on to Q.

For Real

He paints a picture in oils of the ocean;

He makes it so real: roiling clouds and emotion.

And then the sea rocks and tides begin shifting,

Salt water arises, begins flowing and lifting.

It spills from its frame, it ounters the floor;

His life has at last become one with the shore.

It's Sunday!  Happy Easter!

It is National Poetry Month, so I am posting a poem a day.

I am using the site: https://randomwordgenerator.com to get a random image for the day.

Bubbles

Bumbling bubbles bobble by,

Softly swirling to the sky;

Reflective rounded rainbows rise!

Fizzle e're they fly too high!

N is for Noup and Nose

It's N for today.  I'm later posting because I just couldn't think of a poem for the word and image that I had.  So I went back in search of two new inspirational pieces.  Found this cute nose image and "noup".  This was not a rolling off the keyboard poem today.  Don't know why it seemed to hard to start...and end!  But it is done!

Dog Nose

I love your nose -

the way you scoop it

to flip my hand

and kinda noup it -

you make me pat

atop your head

and plead I'll follow

where I'm led;

It lifts to breeze

commencing twitch

to zero in

on something which

is aromatic

teasing senses

and luring you to

leap low fences.

When breeze has died,

nose roaming over,

it's back to scoop

and noup home clover.

My, My, Mud and Miresa

I'm standing in miresa and mud -
a slippery, slobbery crud;
all gray and gloopy,
watery, soupy,
I am fond of this gloppy foot flood.

From Here to There and Back

a larksome locomotive spans the valley in the air

weighed down with heavy load of varied, lonstrian despairs

steel and iron, wheels on tracks

rickety racks and sundry clacks

fortunate the joys that lift to raise the burden that it bears

peak to peak the engine rallies on its route from here to there

rickety racks, wheels on tracks,

steel and iron, sundry clacks

such joy in mountain topping, heavenly happiness to spare

the times with burdens lifted is a wonderful repair

steely tracks, irony clacks

sundry clacks, rickety racks

the times with burdens lifted is a wonderful repair

such joy in mountain topping, heavenly happiness to spare

steel and iron, sundry clacks

rickety racks, wheels on tracks,

peak to peak the engine rallies on its route from here to there

fortunate the joys that lift to raise the burden that it bears

Knowing Knots

It's helpful when you tie a knot to know how knots are tied

It isn't good to try to tie and ku from side to side

You have to make some loops and twists before you weave and slide

Sit back, admire your knot and smile, a jaunty smile of pride.

Now you can fasten boat or shoe whenever one's untied.

I'll need search no more.

Waisting Away

Impartious ice is melting in a freezing water spot

Though not as fast as it would melt inside a boiling pot

But even still it disappears to little from a lot

I wish my waist would shrink this fast whenever I'm too hot.

Perhaps this ice cream cooling me is hitting the wrong spot.

Sunday is a Poem Day

Sunday - no AtoZ - but a poem nonetheless.  Isn't nonetheless a great word?

No fake word for today.

Bold Reflection

I started on a walk today

but rain began to fall

I ran back in the house to dry

Reflection seemed to stall.

It wanted to stay out and play

No concern for water fall.

I darted in, it stayed outside

ignored my plea and call

I wish I had my shoes inside

out of the drowning squall

Reflection kept my shoes to fill

It's got a lot of gall...

and fill they will with raindrops

as much as will befall.

How Funny

A belly laugh, a nasal chortle,

Hilarious horse laughs

one could compare the noises

to some hysterical giraffes

It starts with joke, a silly look,

the teasing escalates.

Such horseplay is a heap of fun

Till someone hypoplates.

Glowl Under the Ground

Money doesn't grow on trees you know

But buried underground...

Piles are stacked under the roots

That's where it can be found!

Dig into the bank of earth

past loam and rocky glowl

Don't pay attention to the cry

Tree's frantic growl and howl!

Its bark is way worse than its bite

Its rings are set to silent

Grab the cash, but leave a bit

No need to get too violent

Leave change to seed the future

To blossom into more

Come back again another day

More interest is in store

Fussily Feathered Fussople (fuss-ō'-pul)

Hails from fair Constantinople,

feathered fowlish fiend fussople;

with crimson eyes and purple crest

he's known to be a noisy pest:

He sings at night to wake the dead

when every soul should be in bed;

then in the morn he shushes dove,

and shatters calm with squawks above.

Fussople, vain, vociferous

rowdy and cacophonous

Provides no quiet, night or day

I beg you Fussople, go away.

E is for Evative and Eye

Day 5 of AtoZ posts.  It's E dday!

I try to use the first randomly generated word that appears with the correct letter for the day and then pick the picture that seems to go with it somehow.  Here's today's image and poem using the FAKE word "evative":

In the Eyes

I saw inside the clearest eyes

the green of early spring

the grassy fields of summer

evative butterflies on wing

the beauty of an autumn leaf

aswirl to land on pond -

 those sparkling eyes far focused

looking deeply far beyond.

They searched what lay 'cross waving field

across the foaming sea

yet all the while those jade green eyes

were gazing up at me.

And I could see the trust in them

the joy in deepest well

a mother loves the near and far

the eyes of children tell.

~ And the FAKE definition of "evative" is... ~

Stay tuned for F!

D is for Donsul and Dock

Day 4

I will be posting a poem a day as I participate in the AtoZ writing challenge.  I will be writing ekphrastic poetry (a poem that was written with inspiration from an image) using a randomly generated image with a randomly generated FAKE word all this month.  I am using the site: https://randomwordgenerator.com to get both fake word and random image for the day.  My plan was to use the first randomly generated word that appears with the correct letter for the day, and the first image that appears.  I have passed on a couple of images that I didn't quite understand.  Nothing's been inappropriate, just uninteresting maybe.  I don't pass on many though.  Here's today's image and poem using the FAKE word "donsul".  See poem below:

A dock out of time

afloat in the fog

a dock for a donsul

and errant tree frog

it hovers in clouds

awaiting a boat

it stretches away like

some narrow white moat

but a boat never comes

nor do the donsuls

but if you look closely

you may see frog's tonsils

he croaks in the mist

and chirr-ups to his friends

he hops off the dock

where the pond and fog lend

a hand to the scene

of serenity's mist

a place where a frog and

a donsul once kissed.

~ So what's a donsul? ~

See you tomorrow for E!

C is for Culatent and Corners

It is:

1. Day 4 of National Poetry Month.

2. Day 4 - Line 4 of the Progressive Poem.  Mary Lee @ A Year of Reading

3. Day 3 of AtoZ postings (no posts on Sundays).

Here's today's image and poem using the FAKE word "culatent".  See poem below:

Corners

A cube is a cube

with its corners complete,

but lacking three sides

it's a roof or a seat.

Those culatent corners

made out of wood

with missing tri-siders

can't be what they should.

So pair them up soundly

then look at each side

their height is the same

as their inches are wide.

A cube is a cube

with triangulant corners

Oh, cubes are the best

say the culatent scorners.

Donna JT Smith ©2022

~So what is the fake definition of culatent?~

Tomorrow is D..."donsul".  Yup.

Sunday for a Triolet

Today is Sunday, so there is no AtoZ post.  It will resume tomorrow with the letter C.

But the Progressive Poem is progressing.  Go check out Catherine Flynn's Reading to the Core for the third line of the poem!  She's added an wonderful line.

When I read Amy Ludwig VanDerwater's triolet about not liking beets, I got the hankering for writing a triolet, and it had to be a response piece about how I love them.  See hers here: The Poetry Farm

I've written triolets before, but when I do, I still have to keep the format beside me in plain sight to keep checking that I'm not all mixed up!  I even marked this one with numbers and colors to be sure, AND then I used it as a way of showing my grandchildren the way you designate rhyme scheme when lines repeat.  So it was fun all around.

Pickled Beets

I really love sliced pickled beets
Bright burgundy and yummy
A blend of vinegar and sweets
I really love sliced pickled beets
They’re so much tastier than meats
Just ask my happy tummy
I really love sliced pickled beets
Bright burgundy and yummy

Donna JT Smith ©2022

Triolets MUST be good brain growers!  Here's my cheat sheet with rhyme scheme.

Lines 1, 4, and 7 are the same
Lines 3 and 5 rhyme with 1,4,7
Lines 2 and 8 are the same
Line 6 rhymes with 2,8

1 I really love sliced pickled beets A

2 Bright burgundy and yummy B

3 A blend of vinegar and sweets a

4 I really love sliced pickled beets A
5 They’re so much tastier than meats a

6 Just ask my happy tummy b
7 I really love sliced pickled beets A
8  Bright burgundy and yummy B

Have a fun Sunday!

B and Progressive Poem

It's really Day 2 of April, but I posted early.  Skip down past the first poem with Burbositision if you are here for the Progressive Poem.

Intro if you haven't been here before:

This month I am participating in the AtoZ writing challenge, which has a goal of posting a subject starting with the first letter of the alphabet on the first day, and ending with z on April 30 (excluding Sundays).  It is also Poetry Month in April, so my posts will be freshly written poems to go with the letter.

I will be writing ekphrastic poetry using a randomly generated image with a randomly generated word all this month.  I am using the site "https://randomwordgenerator.com" to get both word and image for the day.   I am selecting a picture that I think can be associated with the letter of the day to go with the "Fake Word" I am stuck with.

Today is Saturday, April 2, so meet the letter B with it's preposterous word, "burbositision", and paired image.  So I need to use this fake word in a poem that goes with the image below:

 Burbs Building

its windows
up and down
over under swerving
sharply projecting
piercing, curving
vining lining
cornerless,
nooklessness
waving watered walls
conceal meandering halls
burbositision at its best
is this nest
or jest?

Donna JT Smith ©2022

~So what would you say is the definition of "burbositision"?~

The second line, contributed by me is here.  Irene Latham started us off, with an intriguing first line taken from a book...THE IMAGINARIES: Little Scraps of Larger Stories by Emily Winfield Martin, so I did likewise....mine is a quote from Bilbo talking to Gandalf in The Hobbit - a poem for two voices?  Take the quotes out and move the line under if it doesn't fit the rest of "who knows how" it will go!

Where they were going, there were no maps; (Irene L.)

"Sorry! I don't want any adventures, thank you. Not today.” (Donna S.)

And now on to Catherine Flynn at Reading to the Core for line 3!

A is for Alized and Alps

April is Poetry Month, and the Progressive Poem is beginning.  It is being organized by Margaret at Reflections on the Teche and the first line of the poem is at Irene Latham's Live Your Poem https://irenelatham.blogspot.com/.../national-poetry... (second line by ME tomorrow!).  I can hardly wait to see how this new poem added to and created by a team of poets will progress as it nears my day to add to it.  Meanwhile, I will be posting a poem a day as I participate in the AtoZ writing challenge.  I will be writing ekphrastic poetry (a poem that was written with inspiration from an image) using a randomly generated image with a randomly generated FAKE word all this month.  I am using the site: https://randomwordgenerator.com to get both fake word and random image for the day.  So far my plan is to use the first randomly generated word that appears with the correct letter for the day, and the first image that appears.  Having never used this site though, I don't know what images will appear, so I may "pass" on a picture that I don't like or feel is appropriate for my young mind.

My first word...to start off with here on Friday, April 1...is "alized".  So I need to use this FAKE word in a poem.

Arise Alized

The lightning struck

the mountainsides

jolted, surprised

by lava skies

the mountain alized

within itself

from crunchy deeps

to mineralized steeps

it smoldered long

mid rumblings strong

till morning bolts

replaced high volts

with solarized spears

and chickadalized cheers

 those once quivering

have quieted shivering.

Long Time Between Posts!

It is Poetry Friday and our host is Amy Ludwig VanDerwater at The Poetry Farm.  Find lots of links to more poetry there today!

It has been so long....incredibly long between posts here.  I've found it easier to pop onto FB lately, but I don't want to give up my writing blog for FB minis.  I've been so busy with homeschooling, my daughter's upcoming wedding, getting the house ready to put on the market, and a move back to Maine in June.

But I must squeeze in time today to promote two new anthologies.  I happen to have a poem in each, and I am so excited and thrilled and happy and....but that is beside the point!

Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong have a new anthology that has just been released that is an A to Z book of poems called Things We Eat.  You will recognize most of the names in it!  Of course, besides the most delicious poems, there are also helpful ideas for use in the classroom.

Amazon link to Things We Eat

Then Tabatha Yeatts has compiled a second anthology of Imperfect poems, Imperfect II (not that the poems are imperfect) with poems about perspectives.  How we look at our mistakes makes a big difference in how we move along in life!  I hope you won't make the mistake of not checking it out!

I hope you have a wonderfully poetic day.  I'm in the middle of homeschooling as I write this, so it is an "off and on again" process.  I won't be a eloquent as I'd like to be.

I'm Going to Miss School

I'm going to miss soils

with humus and sand;

Going to miss history

in distant, past lands;

Anto- and syno-nyms;

the metaphoring chores...

the sound of the dog's

silly sighs and her snores;

the grinding of pencils

being sharpened precisely;

the cozy of reading

in pillows puffed nicely.

Once back to "real" school

I'll miss them so dearly,

Though they'll think it cool

and resume it as merely

a hiccup in time that

had no friends at recess;

While I will go on

with hiccups relentless.

Balance

This is WAY too LONG...but it reveals a bit of why I've not been here for awhile.  I've edited this to have the poems FIRST, since this IS Poetry Friday!

 BALANCE (an acrostic)

Because the times

Are so tough

Lately

All we dwell on is the

Night;

Concentrate on the light

Embrace the balance.

by Donna JT Smith, 1/2022

Thanks for hosting Poetry Friday, Carol.  I'm going to try to make it for Poetry Fridays this year.

Hmm.  Upon publishing, I found this Draft post from July 8, 2021 that I didn't publish...I wrote it, but lost the energy to hit "publish".  I find it interesting that BALANCE is included here...

_______________

For those who are here watching someone leaving.

This is not the best writing, but I'm tired.  And some days I cannot find the words.  My brain is on overload, making it hard to express myself - at least without becoming an emotional wreck.

So I continue to try to keep my balance, stay afloat, plant a smile.

Thank you for indulging me.  I will continue to try to read and comment on other writers', though I feel I am failing at that, and falling behind.

Missing You

   While You are Here

I am walking on our love-worn way

where roses' thorns would

sting.

I am strolling on our stony path,

my unheld hand to

swing;

I am yearning for calm clarity

and peace of mind to

spring.

I am longing for the quietude

as sliding snails might

bring.

I am humming to the sky above

enticing birds to

sing;

And watching you step off the trail

for golden comfort's

wing.

I'll rejoice the day our routes rejoin

to rise before our

King;

But I'll hide for now in willow's shade

my thoughts as leaves on

string.

As many have said they are trying to do this year - or WILL do this year - I am trying to find the good 2022 offers if we look.  I can't say we started it well... but I have not yet lost my temper during the sewer line fiasco.

On Jan. 4 we had a new liner to the house sewer line started.  It had to cure overnight, so we stayed in a hotel.  It ended up that we spent two nights and three days there, where I also homeschooled the grandchildren as best I could.  When they deemed the line good, we returned.

The house plumbing worked fine...but our apartment above the garage didn't. That night we had a plumber  until midnight trying unsuccessfully to get water to drain.

The next day (Friday, the 7th) their master technician came out.  (Not to say "I told you so", but I'd mentioned more than once that they needed to make sure the apartment lines were okay and that they weren't bypassing them...I should'a been a plumber) and of course found out that they had indeed lined the pipe right past the plumbing in the apartment. (Sigh) Yup, putting the liner in, they had assumed... let's just say, never assume...and they bypassed the output lines from the apartment.

They will be here Sunday morning to jackhammer our garage floor removing sections of sewer line and replacing with pipe sections with new openings...We are hoping that by noon on Sunday we will have a functional home again.

So new word for this year.  BALANCE.  There are so many good words out there.  But I think this year I want to balance my life better.

Here's the thing that's been going on in the background with me...well, one of the things...I've shared some of what I've been going through with my husband's dementia with a few people...one more factor in why it has been difficult to keep writing and interacting with everyone here.  I need more plates - this one is getting too full!  It's important to BALANCE those plates, BTW.

I am going through physical therapy now due to my covid vaccines.  I haven't said much about this, as I don't want to discourage anyone from having their vaccines.  But we believe my son's heart, blood and brain injuries were due to his vaccine.  He's coming back strong, but we almost lost him a few times in this ordeal in September (which started a few days after his vaccine and is otherwise unexplainable by doctors).

My reaction began with my first dose, but I didn't put the two together because it again is not a typical reaction.  I began with painful muscle spasms of the legs and back when lying down or trying to get out of bed, and I would get a terrible sharp stabbing pain in my hip/back randomly if bending or sitting.  I got my second dose, the pain became even worse and I could no longer turn over in bed at all, and it was a slow, difficult process to get out of bed.  I was seen by a doctor who recommended PT.  When I got to PA I began PT, but couldn't do much because all motion was too painful.  I was researching what this pain could be and praying it wasn't MS or a few other dire things.

With time, my pain began to be manageable, and no one said this was a vaccine reaction, so I had my booster.

Oh, I so wish I hadn't.  The pain that had begun to be tolerable, came back with a vengeance - worse than before!  I was trying to find any position that would be comfortable for even a short period of time.  I'd even tried sleeping sitting up at the table, as the pain of getting in and out of bed was unbearable.  I was afraid I was becoming an invalid.  I had to prop my back up so I could lie on my side without using any muscles.  I moved carefully through my days...at any moment a movement could send me into spasms and excruciating pain. The next doctor advised having an epidural of an anti-inflammatory.  I opted to wait it out...hoping that the pain would subside.  I was really suspecting the vaccine by then and went searching for more information.

It took a while because searching for vaccine stuff is all about getting the vaccine or the typical minor reactions.  But finally I plugged in the right search words and found a site where people were talking about what was going on with me...and they were all suspicious of the vaccine and asking others if they'd had this happen!  Doctors were basically ignoring it. No one wanted to admit that there are some people who should not have the vaccine.  My family is one of them.  Even my daughter who had the J&J vaccine, one dose, began to have the pain in her back.  We never connected the two events, but we did find it strange that we were both having difficulty lying down.

I am again on the "past the worst" and improving side.  I still have some pain, go to PT, and use the TENS unit electrical stim most evenings.  But I'm not on pain meds and I can get out of bed pretty well.  The bouts of random stabbing pain are subsiding again.  I can pick up things from the floor again - carefully.  I am starting to feel like myself.

I cannot stand and hold a balloon out in front of me...yet.  I cannot walk a block...yet.  I can lose my balance easily.  But I can sit in most chairs comfortably.  I can go up and down stairs.  I can stand long enough to cook a meal.  The feeling in my legs and toes seems to be returning.  I'm not pain free, but almost!  PT is now helping to build up my muscles again, that I haven't been able to use for so long!

So BALANCE seems a good word for me.  I want to regain my physical balance, my emotional balance, my life balance.  I need to start balancing physically and balancing my time for me.  Things have been out of whack for long enough.  I think for two years I've forgotten to slap on more good stuff when the bad started to outweigh it.

Thank you for allowing my rant and slate cleaning.  I am good.  There's been lots of hard times these past two years, but we've made it this far.  I know there will be more ahead, but I hope to keep the balance.

I've started by signing up for Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong's anthology 101, 201 and 301...for ME.  I need some happy me time to outweigh the times that have weighed me down.

But just so you know, I will not be getting another booster.  I can't.  I think it will literally kill me.

A Compass...a Track?

It's Spiritual Journey Thursday, hosted by Ruth at There is no such thing as a God-forsaken town, where we are reviewing our One Little Words for the year.  How are you coming along staying focused?

For most of last year and this I have been speechless.  I had no word.  I had no words.  Things have flown by me, over me, under me, around me...and I have been a passenger on this earth watching people and events whiz by.  No words came to me...well, except maybe "help!"

It is now time for a word that will actually help me.  The first word that came to mind just a few seconds ago while writing this was "compass".  I am in need of a compass.  I am in need of something with a constant and a direction.  I will be continuing on a new and uncharted path, and for the most part, alone.  It must be a good compass.  A weighted compass that will not fly off in the windstorms that are sure to come.  Maybe it is "track".  I am on a track now...am I ON track?  I am trusting that I am.  I certainly feel like I am on a train with an unknown destination.  Maybe I do not really need the compass.

Right now there are so many ways life could go...will I let it take me there, or will I be determining parts of the path?

I feel like Dorothy at the crossroads - only she got to pick a direction.  I'm not sure I'm supposed to be choosing a way to go.

I'm not sure of the direction to take, no indicators of the destination.  I have no set way to go yet, and I believe the path will reveal itself as I move along.  There is no way to tell what September will look like - where I will be, who I will be with (if anyone), or why I am there.

Perhaps God will answer my plea to know a little more about the plan.  Perhaps He will not.  So far he's kept most of this part of my journey a secret from me.  Such a strange place...curiouser and curiouser...

But I'm pretty sure I am "on track", to something that has been laid out for me just around the bend.  I think I'm supposed to sit back and watch, and make some other lives comfortable along the way if the opportunity presents itself.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jeremiah 29:11

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

 Way to ramble, Donna.

Birthday Cards

 Mug Shot

This is a card I made for my daughter for her May birthday.  I've taken to making a small, postcard size, watercolor for a birthday card.  Quick.  Write a poem on the back.  Quick.

This one has flaws, but so do I.  So that's what you get with me. Lol!  But it's fun and it keeps me out of trouble!

Happy birthday to my girl,

The one who loved to dance and twirl,

The one who grew up in a day -

As old as I now,

I must say...

I don't know how this came to be...

Wait! No!

I think I'm 33!

Yup, you're much older than I am now

There's no explaining why or how!

Madness! Poetry

If you are wondering what to do today because you have read all the poems being shared for Poetry Friday, what better way to extend the fun, than to to to Madness! Poetry and read 64 new poems created.  Cast a few votes, or many votes to encourage all the poets who have submitted their creations (under duress!)

I will warn you, it is addicting...and the contest runs through May with new poems created weekly.  You need to stay tuned to get the next round!  Each poet has 36 hours to create a new piece using their given word.  It is not a contest to be taken lightly - however, you kinda have to!

Today at 5 my bout with RJ Clarken closes.  Our word was "suave"!  It is so interesting to see how these words get woven into poems - and to see the strange theme or character occurrences in two battling poems.

I do hope you get on over there - not just for MY sake, but for all the poets and all the poems begging to be read!!

I'm going to put a poem here in just a minute...or two...here we go...done.

An old Squiggle I drew...

Happy Spring!

Run and sing!

Catch a frog!

Jump a log!

Such delight -

Days wax bright!

Warmish breezes!

Summer teases!

Grab a swing -

Raise toes to spring!

It's time for the amazing Madness! Poetry, a time of writing poetry under the constraints of word assignment (the words are ridiculously challenging), length of creation, and time restrictions (36 hours to create and submit - 36 hours to vote on each bout).  The 64 competitors eventually - beginning of June - pare down to a single winner of the Thinkier Award!

Here's my poem I submitted as an entry for Ed DeCaria, the creator/mastermind of Madness! Poetry.  It got me a seat in Round 1!  Let's hope the words flow for Tuesday, when the bout begins for RJ Clarken and me!

Madness

Demons be within our brains
Prodding us to wax inane;
Inventing verse and astute stanza
With words like dame ‘n’ extravaganza!
Oh, to live as those who’re sane, or
To be at one with life mundaner.
But no… the sobriquet of poet
Is our lot, and we all know it.
Polish pens, unearth slick paper,
Prepare for the wildest poetry caper!
This Madness comes but once a year,
We’re loco, though, for life, I fear.

I hope you can join us in reading and voting on your favorite poems each time the new batch appears.  Watch for Becky Herzog and Heidi Mordhorst, too!!

Don't forget to log in to vote on all the poems!

Meanwhile, Happy Poetry Friday!  Read more poems right now by visiting Bridget Magee at wee words for wee ones.
