G is for Giraffe

Oh, giraffe with head on a neck that goes high
Eating leaves that grow on trees so high.

What does it look like close to the sky
Looking down from way up high?

Do you imagine that your head can fly
Since it’s so close to the birds flying high?

When you look around what do you spy
Can you see over mountains with tops quite high?

You’re so far away, are you proud or shy;
Could it be that's why your head's held high?

Would you even try to look in the eye
Of another giraffe that was just as high?

It makes Donna wonder, why, oh, why
A giraffe always keeps his head so high.

A ghazal's (pronounced ghuzzle) structure is AA, bA, cA, dA, eA, etc. usually with 7 couplets, complete on their own.  The first line has an element of rhyme with the second line.  Often the author is named in the last couplet.    Donna - that's me...or it is I...I am Donna.  You get it, right?

I climbed a tall tree
and looked down
to see
what a
giraffe sees
when he
looks
down
at
me
and I
could see
that
I would
be
very far
away
indeed
I think
I want to
get down
from
this
tree
very carefully.

  1. Giraffes are beautiful. They look royal and should be called "Your Highness." It is so interesting that ghazal expects to use the author's name.

  7. Too fun, with all the g's. I am amazed that you are to G & keep finding fonts, etc. to do this project with from A to Z. So cool that they're there. I liked both, but especially the 2nd one with "I want to/get down/from/this/tree/very carefully. Your creativity is amazing, Donna.
