A Slice of Sun Shine

On this white, blustery day of no sun, no shine, I know there IS shining somewhere, a sun.  It is just above the clouds.  It is always there no matter the day, the hour, the weather, or even the sadness.  It is always there.
And no matter the circumstance, we are to look to that shining sun.  Hope you have a Slice of Sun Shine today!

Added this portion on Friday morning - wish I'd added it it on Thursday:
Though many of you will not be returning to read this additional note, I felt I needed to mention that this poem may be taken on a "sun only" meaning, or it may be seen as an "only Son" poem.

My reference to the moon, "reflects" the fact that we are to be the evidence or the witness of the Light as John said here.  The moon is not the light, but reflects the light of the sun - the evidence of the source of its true light, the sun.

John 1:
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

Not today...

"The Sun Shine" or "The Son Shine" - your pick.

Lifts dew
Dries tears
Grows roots
Melts fears

Lights up eyes
Warms the soils
Dances on seas
Smiles on toils

Reflects in ponds
A surging flame
Causes the rainbows
Illuminates each frame

Turns snow to diamonds
Gives a face to the moon
Reveals hope in darkness
As promised, returns soon

Some scripture for "Shine" - a wonderful reflection for Easter...

Isaiah 60:
1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

Matthew 5:
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

  2. "Reveals hope in darkness," this line speaks to my soul. Thanks for penning this wonderful poem and for sharing scriptures with us too - "...the Lord shall be thine everlasting light." As you said, a wonderful reflection for this Easter season.

  3. After our snow yesterday, like Denver as usual, the sun was powerful today, and took your line, "turns snow to diamonds". Nice to see this ode to the sun.

    1. No sun yet this morning either. A bit of freezing rain. Sunday won't be warm - cloudy and 44 degrees it's predicting. I remember those Easters of not being able to wear the shiny black patent leather shoes I'd just gotten!

  4. Thank you for your uplifting reflections, Scripture verses, and the poem whose line "Gives a face to the moon" especially captivated my imagination. I never really thought about the relationship of the sun and the moon that way. Interesting that the sun generally needs to be out of sight to give the moon a chance to shine. Hmmm...think there are lots of applications to human relationships (especially mentoring types)....I'll need to ponder that. God bless you; thanks!

    1. Bobbie, I added a note about that particular line later - just in case you return! There are many ways to interpret that line. I like that you could see the interpretation of the sun giving the moon a chance to shine!
