Once Flaky, Now Shiny

#SOL17 number 20...
And it is officially Spring today...

Just look at the beautiful sun glistening on the waves...the white caps...

Snow banks at the parking lot, shining in the sun

And here is another shot.  Note the way the waves break on the shore.
Looking out across the school ball field

And here you can see the reflection of a mast of a sailboat on the glassy, calm waters.
Ball field light pole reflection on frozen snow

I love how the waves rush in, crashing at shore's edge.
Plowed banks silhouetted against the frozen field, trees against the sky

What?  Aw... snow?  Really?  I thought it was spring!

The sun shining on the snow, melts it just a bit and then it refreezes.  It is not the fluffy stuff of shouting "Merry Christmas".  It is not packy.  It is packed... solid.  It is icy.

Yet, also because the sun is stronger now, it is melting in some spots, and then surface freezing, like on the road and walkways.  So just when you think you can walk on it, and not wear your boots because all is frozen solid... that's when you break through into the puddle below.  Ask me how I know.

No don't.  I'm drying my shoes.
It's a sure sign that spring will be coming soon.

Poem time:
An acrostic for SUN

Steady, searing, shining star
Ushered unerringly upward, ultimately
Nudging neighboring nebulose night

  1. Donna, shot #2 is a dreamy one but really snow??? We have had it too so where is spring. I am lucky that there is still snow on the ground so I can finish my winter gallery. BTW, would you like to send me a photo collage with a quick poem to say good by to winter and hello spring?

  2. It sure does not look like snow, but wet shoes are a sure sign that the weather is warmer than the snow banks. Here's to warmer days ahead.

  3. Your words are as powerful as these images - or even more so. I like the way you have paralleled the frozen-over snow and the ocean - also the plowed snow and the trees on the horizon. Not sure I would have seen all that in the photos without your guidance. Keep those feet dry!

  4. Love the photos. They go so well with your comparisons to the water. Hopefully your shoes are dry by now.
Fun word choices on your poetry today.

  5. Every time I envy you the sea, Donna. The pictures are so gorgeous. I do know about the freeze thaw from when we lived on a lake.
