Spring Senses

Friends Sharing a Moment
I opened the slider, and the cat and dog shared the smells, the view and the breeze together.  I wondered which of the senses the animals most enjoyed during this close encounter with the outside.

Spring...
smells fresh
of grass and leafy buds
like greens and purples;
of dirt and worms
awakening.

Spring...
looks new
with changing shadows
like rippling waters;
with yellow dandelions
popping.

Spring...
feels soft
as a kitten or puppy
like a fuzzy friend;
as breezes
tickling.

Spring...
sounds gleeful
with goldfinches and robins
like a musical interlude;
with busy bugs
humming.

Spring...
tastes smoky
as blackened marshmallows
like burned bubbles;
as hot dogs
grilling.

    1. Thanks, Lynn! Gotta love spring! A relief after winter, and like summer, only cooler.

  2. love the photo! And I like that 'dirt and worms awakening'-lovely. We actually had a cold front come through last night & today & have had lovely rain, thus new smells! I suspect all the flowers & grass will grow, grow now! Looking forward to tomorrow!

    1. They sat there for quite some time together, just smelling and looking. Today (Tuesday) we have your rain and cold, but yesterday was wonderful. Time to mow the lawn next!

  3. Love this whole post. It reminds me of the time we had a dog and cat who thought he was a dog because they were raised at the same time. Favorite stanza is the one with "soft as a kitten" and "tickling." You have awakened my spring spirit.

    1. Thanks, Tam. Yes, these two think they are both dogs. The cat, Purrsee, gets kind of rough with the dog sometimes, but Pippi puts up with it in her good-natured Golden Retriever way.
