D Do Not Use as a Ground

This is the Daunting, Daring and Delightful Dream beyond belief A-to-Z April 2015 Challenge!!!!  And I am an A to Z Participant.  And it is Day 4, Letter D!

Again this year I am writing a poem a day to celebrate National Poetry Month.  It's my FOURTH YEAR in a ROW of writing a poem a day for the A to Z Challenge. My first year theme was Animals, the second was lobster boat names, and last year was Maine authors.  This year my poems will be paired with photos of signs I've taken the past few years.  Signs have always fascinated me.  Sometimes it's the mistakes on them, sometimes the different ways the language can be taken, and sometimes it's the surroundings that go with it.

Do not try to ground yourself with me
I am no substitute for a tree
I will not anchor you
Do not think I will make your cafe delight
I am not an ingredient for a mocha light
I will not fill your cup
Do not put two feet on my steel surface
Our you’ll fall flat on your face
I will not keep you up
Do not think I will help in life storms
I am not able to counsel you
I have no wise words
But I will hold this roof up over your head
and you may lean on me instead
with two feet planted
while this storm passes over
and drink your latte
brewed of grounds aromatic
while trains shake the ground
and that is grounds to be ecstatic

This one is not one of my favorites, but I got it done...you have not grounds to sue me over it.  Drink some more coffee and stay out of the lightning! Let's hurry to E.  It's much better than this one.  I wish it were for Sunday, but it's for Monday!

  2. I thought that was great! Love how you added coffee "grounds." And what a bizarre sign!

    1. It almost looks like you will get electrocuted by touching it by the way the figure is reacting!

  3. That was an interesting read..A tree will always be a tree one that is planted firmly in the ground no man made structure will whisper to you in the wind.

  4. No apologies, this was a very pithy, interesting poem. The "writer" could have been talking to her partner or her children.

    1. It's funny, when I reread it after it came out and I had written my comment about it, I thought hmmm. It meant more to me than I thought. You are right.

  5. I don't think it is so bad. I chose a poem a day also for this challenge. I have a couple of stinkers I think but some I have had recorded and others I am proud of. Thanks for stopping by.
