Poetry Jam Prompt - Lost and Found

The prompt at Poetry Jam is to "write a poem about an object or a person that has disappeared from your life or entered it and is now uniquely special to you".
After messing about and throwing away stuff, this occurred to me and came to be.   It makes me teary to read it.  I hope it doesn't ruin your day.  I need to go do laundry or vacuum or something else now.  I'm not reading it again.  Ever.

To cheer yourself up later, you can revisit some of my other "Lost" poems here, that I've written when I've Found other people's Lost gloves:
Pink Glove Wave
Lost Glove #2
And a "Lost Glove" writing here: First Glove of the Season

Without You

If there should ever come a day
when I look across the table
and you are not there -
when meals are unappreciated
and shirts no longer need ironing
when the pillow is still fluffed
and I open my own doors
when your hand's not there to hold
and open jars for me
when I feel the breeze kiss my neck
but not you
when no one beckons me to come outside
to look at the moon and stars
or hear the owls
when the winding roads become
just roads of convenience
not discovery
and discussion -
If ever there should come that time
I will be lost
gone
never to be found
and I will not want to be found
unless
until
someday
again
by you

  1. This is a beautiful and, I agree, also sad write. I can see why you would not want to read it again. I like the everyday images in your poem, Donna, images we can relate to and that make our lives what they are.

    1. Yes, dwelling on this is too sad, so I have thought it, written it and now I can clear my head of it for a while longer! I want to make more happy images to dwell on through the years!

  2. there is beauty in the sadness of this...i do not look forward to that day...and i too would say i would rather not be found without them....without her....

    1. So now that I've written it, I can concentrate on moving forward! Not going to try and figure out how the years will go!

  5. Donna, this is touching and poignant. You have expressed very strong love, one which is irreplaceable. I think somehow we have to live each day...enjoying each special moment with the one loved.

    1. No one here is the first, nor will be the last, to have to deal with this.

  7. Quite healing in a way, as facing up to this possible scenario rather than stuffing it away at the back of one's mind, is actually catharsic. It also makes one appreciate the past and the present with greater awareness.

    1. I had hoped it would be healing and not too overpowering. Best not to dwell, just be aware enough to spend time wisely and happily!

  8. This end game is tricky, isn't it. We are close enough to know the finish line will pop up around the corner...but for us first, or for them? The only solution is to live into every moment with joy and appreciation and love.

    1. Yeah, not liking the idea of any 2 minute warnings and such! But we do have to just keep appreciating what we have and keep it going as long as possible!

    1. Not thoughts I dwell on! I do want to use my time wisely, well and lovingly, and you can't do that if you dwell on the "what if's"!

    1. Thank you, Wendy. I think it is a blessing to be able to feel that way. As difficult as it may be someday, the alternative of never having had that relationship at all would be worse.

  11. What a beautiful, heartfelt poem. It's full of those homey details that make companionship and love ordinary and extraordinary. Has "you" read it?
