Happy Birthday, Mom!

Filling Your Shoes

You left your shoes for me to fill
Sometimes I put them on
And hear you still
Some days I feel you in the air
Facing indecision
I see you there
Practical words you'd give today
And comfort bestow in
Your special way
In many ways that can't be known
You have lent me wisdom
Beyond my own
So when I wonder what to do
I can look inside me
And see you too.

  3. Oh, that touched my heart. I love the idea of our beloved ones leaving shoes that we can fill. Happy day of your mom!

  4. Donna, this is so sweet and dear. I kind of took it in for thoughts of my own mother, too. How true it is, how true.

  5. Well. Two "occasional poems" in one roundup. Clearly, the Universe is nudging me to try this form!

Like Linda, I can imagine this as a poem for my mom. You managed both the specific and the universal.

  6. That was a great poem.

And you won the contest. The announcement on the blog will go up Monday, but I just thought I'd let you know.
Do you want a physical copy or a Kindle copy?
