A to Z on a Plate - Q

This is the ONLY plate I could find for Q, can you believe it?
I didn't have a clue what to write about this one, not having any idea what it could possibly refer to.  Then I did a quick Google of the letters and came up with Quidditch, a game in the Harry Potter books.  I've not read or seen any Harry Potter stuff, so was at a loss as to what to write.  I researched this elaborate and kinda violent game, and this is what I came up with:

What, you have never heard of Quidditch?
You do not know the sport of Wizzes?
Why everyone who's anyone
Plays it and knows what this is.

1 seeker, 3 chasers, 2 beaters, 1 keeper
Make up two seven person teams;
Add 2 Bludgers and a Quaffle ball:
It's not as confusing as it seems.

Astride brooms players dodge the Bludgers;
The Seekers snatch the Snitch,
While Chasers try to score with Quaffle -
Worth 10 points in the game Quidditch.

Snatching Snitch earns 30 points
To bring it to an end;
If you're confused, you aren't alone -
How 'bout a game of chess, my friend?

  1. I was going to say something about you not knowing a bit about Harry Potter, but I know how I feel when folks are incredulous that I haven't seen popular movies or when I've apparently been in a cave while others enjoyed some "major" sporting event or another, so I'll just say -- perfect last line, especially knowing your relationship to the world of Harry Potter!

    1. It was a stretch to write about this! I am pretty sure I have the rules down now thanks to Google and Wikipedia!
      No plans to ever see or read anything HP. It's just not the stuff of my world.

  2. I love that there's a Quidditch licence plate somewhere in Maine. :)

    And I think I've played that video game...I was terrible at it.

    1. I guess there would be a video game of it! Huh! Bet it's a great seller. It would be better than playing it for "almost" real...

  4. For someone who has never seen a Harry Potter film or read any of the books, you have done an excellent job with this poem. Love it.

  6. Thank God there's Google! It has saved me many a times. Quidditch! I don't know all of the rules, either. Did you know there are groups that meet and play the game in real life? I'm assuming it's legit and they are serious when they play. https://www.usquidditch.org/events/calendar
    It would be interesting to observe.

    1. Yes, I'd heard that they play it in real life, too, now. It was hard to tell what was real and what was from the book though at times when I was researching it.

  7. A great license plate for HP fans. My kids and I read all the books together. Such amazing world-building and imagination in them. Thanks for the inspiration.
